Longer trains and operating hours for Kieler Woche
- More trains, more frequent departures
- Hourly trains in all directions from Kiel late at night on weekends
During Kieler Woche, local transport increases its capacities. As in every year, the train companies will deploy longer trains during the week wherever possible, to offer as many guests as possible the option to travel to and from by train. On weekends, trains run continuously day and night to and from Kiel, often even twice an hour, and from Neumünster to Kiel, even three times an hour in the afternoons.
On the weekends of Kieler Woche, hourly trains run at night:
- between Kiel and Lübeck
- between Kiel and Eckernförde
- between Kiel and Neumünster (and Hamburg)
- between Kiel and Rendsburg
Additionally, on weekends (on the nights from Friday to Saturday and Saturday to Sunday), there are half-hourly return services until around 2 a.m.
- from Kiel to Preetz,
- from Kiel to Neumünster (from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. every 20 minutes, then half-hourly until 2 a.m.),
- from Kiel to Rendsburg,
- from Kiel to Eckernförde.
Between Rendsburg and Kiel, there are additional direct connections on weekends without stops between Rendsburg and Kiel Hauptbahnhof (RE 74 X). As electric trains are used on these routes, which only operate under continuous overhead lines, the journey, which goes via Neumünster without stopping there, takes 45 to 50 minutes.
On the section Eckernförde – Schleibrücke Süd during Kieler Woche, diesel multiple units will operate instead of battery trains, which are normally in use from Niebüll to Dagebüll. This way, more battery trains can be deployed on other routes. Passengers travelling from Schleibrücke to Kiel must change in Eckernförde. The diesel multiple units are not barrier-free. Passengers with reduced mobility are kindly requested to contact the nordbahn customer dialogue at (040) 303 977 333.
Due to construction work for the reactivation of the Kiel-Oppendorf – Schönberger Strand route, there will be no historical trains running there this year.
Bus companies within Kiel and in the surrounding districts also offer longer operating hours and higher capacities. Passengers can find the timetables in the NAH.SH app, in the NAH.SH timetable information, and directly on the websites of the transport companies.
