European timetable change brings improvements for passengers of the Norddeutsche Eisenbahn Niebüll
Wi-Fi, service shops and improved passenger communication for travellers
With the European timetable change on 14 December, the new transport contract with NAH.SH comes into effect for the Norddeutsche Eisenbahn Niebüll. The approximately 300,000 passengers annually on the RB65 line, Niebüll <-> Dagebüll Mole, which connects to the ferry terminal to Amrum and Föhr, will benefit from numerous service improvements, a modern appearance, and a significantly expanded information offering.
Modern look and increased reliability
The vehicles of the RB65 have been shining in the fresh NAH.SH design since April. In addition to the new exterior, the interiors have also been revamped, and passenger comfort has been further enhanced. A total of five vehicles will be available for operation in the future, one of which will always be available as a reserve to ensure reliable operations in case of disruptions or maintenance. The annual performance includes 122,000 train kilometres and 167,000 vehicle kilometres.
Free Wi-Fi: Surfing, streaming, working – everywhere on the train
A central highlight for passengers is the new, free Wi-Fi on board all trains. Whether commuters, students, or holidaymakers – everyone can now comfortably work, stream music, or simply surf the internet. The vehicles have been equipped with modern radio and network technology, ensuring stable Wi-Fi availability in all areas. The bandwidth is intelligently distributed, ensuring a fair and reliable connection even at high occupancy. Modern encryption and regular updates also ensure data security and protection.
New passenger information system for optimal communication
The new passenger information system provides significantly more transparency, overview, and orientation, offering far more than just the display of the next station. At the platform, modern external displays assist in quickly identifying the correct train. Inside, screens and automated announcements reliably inform about upcoming stops, possible delays, and important connections. In case of operational changes, information is supplemented at any time by manual announcements, ensuring that passengers remain well-informed even in exceptional situations. The heart of the system is the new computer-based operational control system, which continuously connects the trains with all relevant information systems. This means that current live data is always available – from minute-accurate timetable information to automatic connection assurance, passengers benefit from reliable and modern communication even in dynamic traffic situations.
New NAH.SH flagship store in Niebüll
With the timetable change, the RDC customer centre on Bahnhofstraße in Niebüll has been expanded to become the official NAH.SH service point, offering its customers a significantly expanded range of services. In addition to selling tickets for the entire Schleswig-Holstein local transport, including tickets for the ferries to Amrum and Föhr, tickets for DB long-distance transport can now also be purchased here. The offering is complemented by personal advice for travellers and tourists, making the location a central point for optimal connections and comprehensive service. "We are pleased that our location has been selected as a flagship store. Here, a central place for optimal mobility and first-class service is being created. We also stand for a forward-looking connection to the islands of Föhr and Amrum, in close cooperation with our partners NAH.SH and the Wyker Dampfschiff-Reederei," says Julian Rönsch, Managing Director of Norddeutsche Eisenbahn Niebüll. In addition, the Norddeutsche Eisenbahn Niebüll, together with its partner Wyker Dampfschiff-Reederei, operates additional service shops in Wittdün (Amrum) and Wyk (Föhr); cooperation in Dagebüll is with the partner Dagebüll Tourismus GmbH. NAH.SH Managing Director Dr. Arne Beck: "The Norddeutsche Eisenbahngesellschaft Niebüll has once again demonstrated the potential of a strong medium-sized railway company. With its clear focus on quality and customer orientation, it has already set standards in the region in the past. We are all the more pleased about the continuation of our successful cooperation."
